Hamas Stranglehold is a dual narrative that switches back and forth between the experiences of one person who grew up in Israel in the 1990’s and another who lives in the Hamas-controlled Gaza strip. In addition, the song emphasizes the agreement of both narratives that civilian lives are the casualties in a seemingly never-ending warfare between two disparate ideologies. The song makes clear that when innocent people bear the brunt of this warfare, neither side has the right to claim a moral high ground over the other.
lyrics
Living everyday
in a Hamas stranglehold
Israel’s not much better,
but they’ve got the rule of law
Listening to the gunfight at night
And the bombs fall
Thinking that Hamas
Has really got me by the balls
Growing up in Israel
I always used to wonder
If a bomb on the bus
Was gonna put me under
Have since went away
The fighting it remains
What you see is what you get
Both sides have sealed their fate
Evan
Just another day
in a Hamas stranglehold
Living in a war zone
our lives are bought and sold
A terrorist cell
bent on annihilating Jews
But murdering Palestinians
the Israeli people also lose
Neither side is right
Palestinians must be free
It’s not the rule of law
When you target civilian casualties
There no end to this hate
This violence will continue
How much more can we take?
From this so called holy state
Just another day
in a Hamas stranglehold
Another suicide bomber
And another bus explodes
Every days the same
Innocent people killed and maimed
Neither side has shame
In a Hamas stranglehold
In a Hamas stranglehold
Civilians lives are bought and sold
Neither side will win this war
This is not a holy war
This is not a holy war
They’re killing innocent people
Civilians lives are bought and sold
In a Hamas stranglehold
In a Hamas stranglehold
Civilians lives are bought and sold
Neither side will win this war
This is not a holy war
This is not a holy war
They’re killing innocent people
Civilians lives are bought and sold
Living everyday
in a Hamas stranglehold
Israel’s not much better,
but they’ve got the rule of law
Listening to the gunfight at night
And the bombs fall
Thinking that Hamas
Has really got me by the balls
